The generated Python bindings loaded `libz3.so` without a soversion,
which could bind to an ABI-incompatible shared library when multiple Z3
versions are present. This change makes Linux bindings prefer the
versioned soname while leaving other platforms on the existing lookup
path.
- **Python loader generation**
- Thread a `z3py_soversion` parameter through `scripts/update_api.py`.
- Generate `_lib_name` as `libz3.so.<major>.<minor>` on Linux, and keep
`libz3.<ext>` elsewhere.
- Reuse `_lib_name` consistently for directory probing, system fallback,
and error messages.
- **Build-system wiring**
- Pass the current `SOVERSION` from the CMake Python bindings build on
Linux.
- Pass the same value through the `mk_make`/`mk_util.py` generation path
so both build systems emit the same loader behavior.
- **In-tree Python bindings layout**
- Add the matching `libz3.so.<major>.<minor>` link in `build/python/` on
Linux so the generated bindings work directly from the build tree.
- **Regression coverage**
- Add a focused script-level test for the generated loader preamble to
check:
- Linux uses the versioned soname when provided.
- Non-versioned fallback remains available when no soversion is
supplied.
Example of the generated Linux loader behavior:
```python
_sover = '5.0'
_ext = 'so'
_lib_name = 'libz3.%s.%s' % (_ext, _sover) if sys.platform.startswith('linux') and _sover else 'libz3.%s' % _ext
_lib = ctypes.CDLL(_lib_name)
```

The `build-pyodide` CI job was failing because cibuildwheel's
`{project}` placeholder resolves to the **repository root**, not the
`package-dir` (`src/api/python`). The `test-command` in `pyproject.toml`
referenced `{project}/z3test.py`, which doesn't exist at the repo root.
## Change
**`src/api/python/pyproject.toml`**
```diff
-test-command = "python {project}/z3test.py z3"
+test-command = "python {project}/src/api/python/z3test.py z3"
The `build-pyodide` CI job has been failing consistently because
`_copy_bins()` cannot find the z3 executable after a successful cmake
build.
**Root cause**: `pyproject.toml`'s `[tool.pyodide.build]` sets `ldflags
= "... -sSIDE_MODULE=1"`. pyodide-build injects this into the
environment `LDFLAGS`, which cmake propagates to
`CMAKE_EXE_LINKER_FLAGS`. The z3 shell target is therefore linked as a
WASM side-module — emscripten emits a `.wasm` file whose name doesn't
match any of the expected paths (`z3.wasm`, `z3.js.wasm`, `z3`):
```
error: Could not find any executable in build directory. Tried:
- .../build/z3.wasm
- .../build/z3.js.wasm
- .../build/z3
```
**Fix** — `src/api/python/setup.py`:
- **`_configure_z3()`**: pass `Z3_BUILD_EXECUTABLE=FALSE` to cmake when
`IS_PYODIDE`, so the shell target is never built
- **`_copy_bins()`**: guard BINS_DIR creation and executable copy behind
`if not IS_PYODIDE`
- **`setup()`**: set `data_files=[]` for Pyodide builds (no executable
to package)
The z3 CLI isn't usable in a Pyodide environment anyway — Python users
only need `libz3.so` via ctypes, which continues to be built and
packaged correctly. Non-Pyodide builds (Linux/macOS/Windows) are
unaffected.
`EXECUTABLE_FILE_FALLBACKS` was referenced on all platforms in
`_copy_bins()` but only defined in the `emscripten` and `else` (Linux)
branches — causing a `NameError` crash on Windows and macOS wheel
builds.
## Change
Add `EXECUTABLE_FILE_FALLBACKS = []` to the missing platform branches in
`src/api/python/setup.py`:
```python
if BUILD_PLATFORM in ('sequoia','darwin', 'osx'):
LIBRARY_FILE = "libz3.dylib"
EXECUTABLE_FILE = "z3"
EXECUTABLE_FILE_FALLBACKS = [] # added
elif BUILD_PLATFORM in ('win32', 'cygwin', 'win'):
LIBRARY_FILE = "libz3.dll"
EXECUTABLE_FILE = "z3.exe"
EXECUTABLE_FILE_FALLBACKS = [] # added
elif BUILD_PLATFORM in ('emscripten',):
...
EXECUTABLE_FILE_FALLBACKS = ["z3.js.wasm", "z3"]
else:
...
EXECUTABLE_FILE_FALLBACKS = []

z3-rs correctly used Or. I accidentally forgot that enclosing function
call, and had what resulted in And.
Test case:
```python
s = Solver()
x, y, z = Ints("x y z")
s.add(x >= 0, x <= 2, y >= 0, y <= 2, z >= 0, z <= 2, x + y + z == 2)
# I didn't test multivariable constraints last time fearing nondeterminism
# Sorting avoids that
print(sorted(map(lambda x: list(map(lambda x: x.as_long(), x)), s.solutions([x, y, z]))))
```
**Before**: `[[0, 1, 1], [2, 0, 0]]`
**After**: `[[0, 0, 2], [0, 1, 1], [0, 2, 0], [1, 0, 1], [1, 1, 0], [2,
0, 0]]`

`build-pyodide` failed because Python packaging assumed the wasm shell
artifact is always emitted as `build/z3.wasm`. In the failing run, the
expected file was absent, causing wheel build to abort during binary
copy.
- **Root cause handling in `setup.py`**
- In the emscripten path, add executable fallbacks (`z3.js.wasm`, `z3`)
alongside the canonical `z3.wasm`.
- During packaging, probe known output names in order and copy the first
match.
- **Stable wheel layout**
- Keep packaged artifact name stable as `bin/z3.wasm` regardless of
which build output variant exists.
- **Failure diagnostics**
- If no candidate exists, raise a `FileNotFoundError` listing all
attempted paths to make CI failures immediately actionable.
```python
executable_names = (EXECUTABLE_FILE,) + tuple(EXECUTABLE_FILE_FALLBACKS)
for executable_name in executable_names:
candidate = os.path.join(BUILD_DIR, executable_name)
if os.path.exists(candidate):
shutil.copy(candidate, os.path.join(BINS_DIR, EXECUTABLE_FILE))
break
This PR adds a first-class Python API helper for expressing regex
constraints in familiar Python regex syntax and translating them into Z3
regex terms. The translator is implemented as a separate module
(`z3regex.py`) as requested, keeping regex conversion logic isolated
from core API files.
- **New Python regex translator module**
- Adds `src/api/python/z3/z3regex.py`.
- Introduces `regex_to_re(pattern, flags=0, ctx=None)` to convert parsed
Python regex constructs into Z3 regex expressions.
- Supports core regular constructs (literals, classes/ranges,
alternation, grouping, quantifiers, categories, wildcard).
- Raises `NotImplementedError` for unsupported non-regular constructs
(e.g., features outside regular languages).
- **API/package integration**
- Exposes the module via `src/api/python/z3/__init__.py`.
- Includes `z3/z3regex.py` in Python binding file copy/install flow in
`src/api/python/CMakeLists.txt`.
- **Doctest entrypoint support**
- Extends `src/api/python/z3test.py` with `z3regex` mode so translator
doctests can be run consistently with existing Python API doctest flows.
```python
from z3 import *
from z3.z3regex import regex_to_re
x = String("x")
r = regex_to_re(r"(ab|cd)+\d{2}")
s = Solver()
s.add(InRe(x, r))

The `build` job in the Pyodide workflow was failing at wheel smoke-test
import time because `libz3.so` was not produced as a proper wasm side
module (`need the dylink section to be first`, missing exported
symbols). This PR restores the required Pyodide linker mode.
- **Root cause**
- Recent Pyodide linker flag changes enabled wasm EH/longjmp but omitted
`-sSIDE_MODULE=1`, so the generated `libz3.so` was not loadable by
Pyodide’s dynamic loader.
- **Changes**
- **`src/api/python/pyproject.toml`**
- Added `-sSIDE_MODULE=1` to `[tool.pyodide.build].ldflags`.
- **`src/api/python/setup.py`**
- Added `-sSIDE_MODULE=1` to the Pyodide `LDFLAGS` path to keep direct
`setup.py`-driven builds aligned with `pyproject.toml` behavior.
- **Flag delta (core fix)**
```toml
# src/api/python/pyproject.toml
[tool.pyodide.build]
ldflags = "-fwasm-exceptions -sSUPPORT_LONGJMP=wasm -sWASM_BIGINT -sSIDE_MODULE=1"
```

## Summary
z3 already builds under Pyodide (there is a `pyodide.yml` workflow and
an
`IS_PYODIDE` path in `setup.py`), but that path uses `pyodide build` and
produces
a wheel tagged `emscripten_<pyodide-version>_wasm32`, which is pinned to
a single
Pyodide release and rejected by PyPI — so today it's only usable as a CI
artifact.
[PEP 783](https://peps.python.org/pep-0783/) introduced the portable
`pyemscripten_<date>_wasm32` platform tag that **PyPI accepts** and
`micropip` can
install at runtime. This makes `z3-solver` build that wheel via
`cibuildwheel --platform pyodide`.
## Changes
- **`setup.py`** — for the emscripten target, use the wheel platform tag
that
pyodide-build provides verbatim via `_PYTHON_HOST_PLATFORM` (e.g.
`pyemscripten_2026_0_wasm32`) instead of reconstructing an
`emscripten_*` tag.
Falls back to the previous behaviour when that env var is absent.
- **`setup.py` / `CMakeLists.txt` / `pyproject.toml`** — switch the
Pyodide build
from JS-based exceptions (`-fexceptions`,
`-sDISABLE_EXCEPTION_CATCHING=0`) to
**native wasm exception handling** (`-fwasm-exceptions
-sSUPPORT_LONGJMP=wasm`),
matching the ABI of the Pyodide 314 / emscripten 5 main module. With the
old
flags `libz3.so` imports `invoke_*` trampolines the runtime no longer
provides,
so the wheel builds but the first `Z3_mk_config` call fails at runtime
with
`Dynamic linking error: cannot resolve symbol invoke_vi`.
- **`pyproject.toml`** — add `[tool.cibuildwheel]` /
`[tool.pyodide.build]` so
`cibuildwheel --platform pyodide` builds and tests the wheel (`cp314`).
- **`.github/workflows/pyodide-pypi.yml`** (new) — build with
cibuildwheel and
publish to PyPI (trusted publishing) on tags. Existing `pyodide.yml`
unchanged.
## Verification
Built with `cibuildwheel 4.1.0` / `pyodide-build 0.35.0` / `emscripten
5.0.3`,
CPython 3.14 / Pyodide 314:
- Produces `z3_solver-4.17.0.0-py3-none-pyemscripten_2026_0_wasm32.whl`.
- `z3test.py` passes in the Pyodide runtime (node + wasm32).
- Installed via `micropip` and solves SMT problems both under node and
in a
browser (`sat` with a model, `unsat` for a contradiction).

The doctests for Statistics.__len__ and Statistics.__getitem__ in
src/api/python/z3/z3.py asserted a fixed counter count (len(st) == 7).
This is fragile because the ":time" entry is only added to statistics
when the elapsed wall-clock time of check() is non-zero (see
collect_timer_stats in src/solver/check_sat_result.h). On fast native
builds, ":time" rounds to 0 and is omitted; under slow environments
(e.g. riscv64 under qemu emulation), it becomes non-zero and is
included, changing len(st).
Fix this by checking the presence of statistics rather than an exact
count.

* Add CMake option to build only Python bindings without rebuilding libz3
Introduce Z3_BUILD_LIBZ3_CORE option (default ON) to control whether libz3 is built.
When set to OFF with Z3_BUILD_PYTHON_BINDINGS=ON, only Python bindings are built
using a pre-installed libz3 library. This is useful for package managers like
conda-forge to avoid rebuilding libz3 for each Python version.
Changes:
- Add Z3_BUILD_LIBZ3_CORE option in src/CMakeLists.txt
- When OFF, find and use pre-installed libz3 as imported target
- Update Python bindings CMakeLists.txt to handle both built and imported libz3
- Add documentation in README-CMake.md with usage examples

When the inputs are already the same sort, we can skip most of the
coercion logic and just return.
Currently, `_coerce_exprs` is by far the most expensive part of
building up many common Z3 ASTs, so this fast-path is a substantial
speedup for many use-cases.

- Defining parametric Pair datatype with fields of type alpha and beta
- Instantiating with concrete types (Pair Int Real) and (Pair Real Int)
- Getting constructors and accessors from instantiated datatypes
